Dear Rollins Families,

Happy New Year 2019! We are excited to welcome all of our students, parents and community partners back to the second half of the school year. We will be working diligently to ensure your students receive higher levels of learning as well as the supports they need to be successful at Rollins. Adhere to this letter is our Rollins School procedures.

We are focusing on daily student attendance this year. We have seen improvements in attendance, but there is still more emphasis that needs to be put into place with your help by making a commitment to send or bring your child to school every day on time. At Rollins, every two weeks we generate a perfect attendance report (0 tardies, 0 absences). The students with perfect attendance have an opportunity to choose a prize for their perfect attendance from a wide selection of trinkets. At the end of the school year (May), we have bicycle drawings (2 girls and 2 boys’ grade bands k-2 and 3-5) and other prize baskets, for all the students who have perfect attendance for the whole year.

Our students are taking the NWEA Winter Map Reading and Math assessment, which is a predictor on how well the students will succeed during the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) state testing for grades 3-5, as well as allow us to see the early literacy development for grades K-2nd. You are welcome to reach out to your child’s teacher by phone or email to request more information on the specific day your child will be tested. You can help us by encouraging your child to do his/her best, but be careful not to stress your child. Limit all activities the night before testing and on the test day please provide a full breakfast (we have breakfast here at school too!).

MAP Testing Window is as follows:

January 9th – January 25th

Our Bilingual/Sheltered/Refusal students will be taking the ACCESS assessment. This assessment measures students’ English level proficiency. You will receive a letter letting you know if your child will be taking the ACCESS assessment. Please make sure your child is here promptly each day for testing.

ACCESS Testing Window is as follows:

January 30th – February 15th (Listening, Reading, Writing)

February 11th – 13th – Speaking

January 30th – February 26th – Kindergarten

The temperatures are dropping. Make sure your child is wearing appropriate clothing for the weather. Remember students are brought in the morning to the cafeteria, hallways after 8:05 a.m. as well as have indoor recess if the wind chill is 17 degrees or below.

January 10: Coffee with the Principal 8:45 a.m.

January 14: Quarter 2 Printed Report Cards sent home with the Students

January 17: Bingo Family Night 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.

January 21: Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday – No School

January 28: Skating Begins
