Expanding Gas ExperimentExpanding Gas Experiment

Today the 5th grade students in Mrs. Pearson’s class learned that by mixing two chemicals, they get a reaction.  The students learned that the chemical reaction made a natural gas called carbon dioxide.  As the chemicals reacted with each other the bubbles from the gas tried to expand but had no where to go, so the gas “expanded” into the balloon.
Using the Scientific method, the students answered the “question”
What happens when baking soda and vinegar come in contact?  Then they students formed a hypothesis (prediction).  Then they used a few of the materials to conduct their experiment, observe the effect on the balloon,  and record the results.
